FAW hosts two annual competitions during the year. Contestants must reside in one of the U.S states of Minnesota, Michigan, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, or Ohio. Guidelines state that the theme of the manuscript must use one of these states for the background of the story.
